Dominican Republic - Calvary Church

From one of our amazing team members . . .
"Day 5 in the DR! What a day! Baseball field completed, the community transformation center was dedicated, LOTS of people showed up from the community, local dignitaries and Pastor Willy helped with the dedication, and then after all had lunch . . . BASEBALL!!!  We had a great game playing with the local talent. I think they finally realized they would have to slow down the pitches or we would never hit one!  Pastor Willy got a hit though!  What an incredible time. Many, many stories to come from this day! I definitely can't wait to come back. Tomorrow we head home. Thanks for everyone's prayers, donations, and support."
Today truly was an amazing day. Around 400 community members made their way to the community transformation center at 10:00 for the dedication ceremony. What a God-inspired time. The Gospel was proclaimed, a new pastor was announced and prayed for, and lives will prayerfully continued to be changed.
Exciting times in the community of El Carrizal!

Dominican Republic - Calvary Church

We have an A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. team here from Calvary Church this week and they have come prepared to do awesome things!!!  We have treated over 300 medical patients, over 150 dental patients, and pulled almost 200 teeth!!!
In addition to all this, a portion of the team is working on constructing a new backstop and dugout for the community baseball field. Here is what one of the team members had to say about Day 4.
"We are rocking it with the ball field!  We got the fence stretched over all of the backstop, the dugouts up, slab poured, and benches set in place. Tomorrow we will put the roof over the dugouts and the last fencing will go up. The kids are very excited about what is taking place. First pitch is thrown tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.!!!"

Dominican Republic - Calvary Church

BUENOS DÍAS from the Dominican Republic! Calvary Baptist Church, along with friends from Kentucky, is ministering to the people of the DR this week as we continue our community development project. After arriving on Saturday, we quickly set to work setting up a medical clinic, dental clinic and completing a new baseball field.
The medical clinic has seen more than 120 people and will continue to help meet the medical needs of all the community members, young and old. Many local residents have excitedly shown up to meet with our dentist and learn more about dental hygiene.
The baseball field is a popular spot and many of the community members have pitched in to help with the complete reconstruction of the field. The original backstop was torn down and we have begun construction on a brand new backstop, pitcher’s mound, bases and dugouts. This will be a place of such joy and comradery for both the children and adults alike.
The team is having fun, jumping rope, blowing bubbles, flossing teeth, treating illness and loving on the people of the DR. We are all blessed to be here and serve God’s people!

Dominican Republic, October 11th- October 17th, 2014

Grand Island Baptist

Day 5:
Today the Grand Island Baptist Mission team spent their last day here. It was a very emotional day for everyone. The women here have been such a blessing, and the children as well. I have been in awe all week; the children have so little, but they give so much. We don’t realize how much we take for granted when people all over the world have to work 10,000 times harder just to survive. This has definitely been a trip that I will remember forever and I will always remember the smiles that these women, children, and even the workers here wear. I hope and pray that this community will be a strong Christian community and will continue to spread the word of the Lord just as we have tried to spread the word to them.

Day 4:
After four great days on the work site we are all in agreement that it is going by too quickly and has already been very rewarding!  We have had the great blessing to not only work physically on construction, but also the joy of sharing with the children.  Our women’s Bible study was fantastic again today and we are amazed at how many new, young women have come faithfully all week.  Our time with them is a great blessing to us as they sing so beautifully and pray so passionately.  We know that our Lord is smiling down on our meetings.  As we prepare for our final day tomorrow we know that we will probably shed 10,000 tears tomorrow as we say goodbye.  Reflecting on today and the Lord’s many blessings.
