Guatemala Sponsorship Update, October 2014

Sponsored Children Visit the Center!

This past week was our monthly basket hand out for sponsored children and their families. Take a look at some of the healthy, smiling faces that returned to the center for a visit! Each family took home a supply of food and nutrition items, and their children received a check up with the nurse and social worker!

Please note that not all of our "at-home" sponsored children are pictured here. Some families live a bit of a distance away, and therefore will be coming to the center next week. Stay tuned for more updates!

If you are interested in becoming a child sponsor, we strongly encourage you to pray about it and get in touch with Orphan's Heart for more information! Call: (863) 577-4488 or email Admin@OrphansHeart.org!

Guatemala, August 23-29, 2014

What an Awesome God we serve!  When we see what has been accomplished in His Name here in Guatemala at the malnutrition center we are overwhelmed.  We are told we are on a Mission Trip to serve in His name taking care of malnourished children, helping nannies complete duties that they take care of every day, loving on children that are less than half the size they should be and we believe that we are going to be a blessing to them......and we are, but only a fraction of the blessing that we receive.  Our hearts are filled with joy as we watch "babies" get excited on our arrival and to see growth in these children in just one day.  The little things like being able to stand on legs the size of toothpicks because they are now getting the nutrition they deserve.  The children are  brought to the malnutrition center by parents who love them and seek help in making their children well.  Can you imagine how hard it must be to admit that you cannot provide sustenance for your children and leave them for someone else to care for?  Most parents do come to see their babies once a week and when they see what is being done in the name of Christ they can't help but appreciate it.  These children go home once they have reached a standard of reasonable health and to make sure they will not have a relapse Orphan's Heart has initiated a plan of support.  Just $35 a month will take care of continued care for each child including monthly check ups.  There is no other help for these children....no food stamps, no welfare....just your help in completing the Great Commission.  These children learn of God's love thru our willingness to be His Hands.
Another blessing we receive this week is enlarging our family.  Loving, laughing, shopping, eating and praying together draws us closer together and allows us to learn more about each other and really becoming brother's and sister's in Christ.  From the ones on their first mission trip to the one on her 17th mission trip, we are changed and know it will not be our last.  We serve because we received the greatest gift ever offered and it is our joy and responsibility as Children of The King to share.

Guatemala Family Mission Trip July 19-25, 2014

Wednesday

God is good!  Day 3 for us and we have been blessed with amazing weather…and a gorgeous sunrise!  The team split for the morning…nine of us headed to the senior center to “hang” with the retired folks from the area.  Marvi led them in singing, dancing, crafts and even Simon Says!  We were also blessed to be able to visit the local market, which is not really a tourist destination and a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most of us.  Marvi’s love for the people of Guatemala, from the very young to the very old, is a blessing and a Christ-like example to all of us.

From a morning spending time with seniors in need of a little more love and attention, we headed back to the center to share some love and attention with some very young ones with similar needs.  Today’s pictures include more with the volunteers, and here are some quotes from the day…

“Today I had the privilege of feeding Maria, who is about 2 yrs old.  Her food came pureed to help her eat with a cleft palate.  She will have surgery to fix her palate on 27 July...please keep this little one in your prayers.  She ate as fast as I could get the spoon to her mouth!”

“Please keep Mario in your prayers as he is fighting pneumonia, and is having trouble keeping any food down.”
