Day 3:This is our second day in the Malnutrition Center. Alexis and I are in the Delfines ("Dolphins".) This is the room for those who are the most severely delayed developmentally. It is hard to tell you about these children, but I would love for you to meet them all. These children have taught us a lot. For me I have learned much about the local culture and how it relates to the work we are doing.
At the Center children are divided into rooms according to where their growth is developmentally. As of this morning our oldest child was 3 1/2 years old and immobile. Many of the children in the Delfines can’t sit upright without assistance. We are doing a lot of work teaching these children to sit and stand. One example that comes to mind is a child, Jose, who is a year old and smaller than all the rest of the kids his age. He is about the size of an average 3 month old. Another child in our room has fluid on the brain. This is treatable; however, the parents will not provide consent for the procedure. We ask for prayers that the God's sovereignty would be shown in this situation, and that the child be healed.
