This past week, the students have been taking midterm exams!
While they were testing, we have been making lots and lots of posters.
We have been working on educational posters that the teachers can hang up in the different classes as visuals for different concepts and subjects. The different ones we have made teach the alphabet, numbers, shapes, weather, parts of a plant, anatomy of different muscles/bones, etc. We have made so many posters that we joke that we are going to start our own business with them.
Needless to say, we are excited to get back to the school at the completion of testing and put these posters to work!!
This weekend was different from our usual weekends.
We did enjoy a little 4th of July fun!
It was also visitation weekend for many of the boarding schools in the area, at which many of the kids in the ministry are right now. So all of the leaders from Hines went to a different school in the vicinity bringing cakes, popcorn, donuts, and many other homemade goods to get them through the rest of the semester. We went with Mama Katherine and Michael to Jinja College to visit three of the boys involved in the ministry.
After visiting with the boys in the morning, we got to spend about an hour shopping on the streets of Jinja. We were so excited to have a chance to shop, and I'd say we bargained pretty well for a couple of "Muzungus!" We also ate at a restaurant where we got cheeseburgers AND a milkshake! Yum!! We were happy campers.
The funny part of this story is that in addition to the two of us interns, we have two girls visiting the ministry for a week from other parts of Africa. All four of us crammed into the backseat of a car in a foreign country on very foreign roads. The first thirty minutes, the four of us remained shoulder to back to shoulder to stomach.
We quickly decided that was not going to work and one ended up laying across the laps of the other three girls on the very bumpy roads. Let's just say after two hours like that, we had to make a change for the ride home. So to the back of the truck we went!
It was a beautiful, sunny, windy ride back to Kamonkoli--a great opportunity for us to marvel at GOD's creation and remember how blessed we are to be here!
Sunday school went great! We were busting at the seams in the children's room! We had to keep scooting back during story time to make room for all of the children that were coming in!
We told the story of David and Goliath and acted out how little David, with God on His side, defeated the big and strong Goliath. The children giggled and shouted when "Goliath" hit the ground, defeated by David.
Our weeks are long, and we are pretty exhausted after the long weekend, so please pray for endurance and good health as we head back to school this week! We are so thankful for your prayers and support! God bless!
