Guatemala, March 29-April 4, 2014 Brookstone School

Brookstone School
Columbus, GA

Yesterday we arrived at the Center all a little apprehensive. However, once we saw the children waving to us from the window, all our fear quickly turned into excitement. After getting a tour of the Center, we divided up into our assigned rooms. For the Canaries that meant jumping straight into changing diapers, while for the Squirrels it was combing and fixing the little girls' hair and getting them dressed for the day. We were all immediately amazed at what the Center was doing for these children. All 71 children seemed to have a respect and positive attitude towards their nannies. Once acclimated with the children we took them outside to play and then headed to lunch. Watching them independently eat lunch until they had completely licked their plates dry made all of the team realize the importance of the Center. The children then went to take naps while we did afternoon projects such as mow the lawn, wipe down mats and fold laundry. Once the children woke up we took them outside again to play until we had to leave. After getting back to the hotel we all sat down and had WOW! Time where we discussed the impact the children and the Center had on each of us that day. We all went to bed exhausted yet excited for the next day.
