GUATEMALA March 22-28, Goodbye for now!

Today was our last day with the children. We were crying on the bus on the way to the Center in anticipation of saying goodbye!  But it has been another exciting day! The Ducks and the Squirrels held a Palm Sunday procession around the Center.  They made palm leaves out of green construction paper made in the shape of the hands, maracas out of water bottles with rice inside, and tambourines out of paper plates.  Then, they paraded around the Center singing, “Ho, Ho, Hosanna!  Ha, Ha, Hallelujah! He, He, He saved me! I have the joy of the Lord.”  They were very lively, and the Chicks, Ducks, Dolphins and Canaries were fascinated by the sight!

Anita moved from giving haircuts to the Staff to taking on the task of the children.  They were very good for her-- in anticipation of getting a lollipop! The girls were very particular about how their hair was styled, while the boys endured a buzz cut.

The maintenance team finished everything on their list except the water tower.  A construction team will be needed to reset the tower.  But they moved the dirt pile (aka "the mountain"), rehung the swings, and painted the southern wall and a storage room.

The bees have been taken care of and some seeds planted.

Sarah, our occupational therapist, has seen amazing progress in some of the children in the Dolphins room who are taking more steps and taking the initiative to take more steps.  She has also been taking some video so that future teams will know how to help the children.

A new baby came to the Dolphins last night.  He is six months old.  Please pray for him as he has a fever.

The Chicks are doing well. Kaia discovered how much the Chicks love bubbles and loved the expressions on their faces as the bubbles floated in the air.   The Chicks seem to be the busiest group and also the most fun!

The Canaries seem fussier than usual today, but one of the little girls who has been refusing to take her bottle drank the whole thing today.

Cameo will be finishing up the massages for the Staff today.  This week she did twenty six half-hour massages.  The Staff say that they are “delicious.”

As usual, our amazing and talented interpreters, Alejandra, Olivia and Isabel have been everywhere in the Center, not only interpreting, but organizing and encouraging.  We couldn't do this without them!

This has been an outstanding week, as four churches came together as one to celebrate Christ’s gift of life to us by serving in His name.  While we met in Miami as strangers, we are now family.  Many of us are already planning our next trip.  There must be something in the water here, because we are all addicted to the children and Nannies at the Center and can’t imagine how hard it is going to be to leave them.  We are leaving a part of our hearts in Guatemala.

Until next time!
