GUATEMALA, March 22-28, Day 3

It is another great day at the Center!  Though it is the middle of the week and we are all tired, we are into the routine, and things are running very smoothly.

There were several highlights today.  The Ducks and the Squirrels saw the story of Noah acted out, complete with the booming voice of ‘God’ (compliments of Nathaniel) and lots of animals in the form of puppets.  We were shocked to see a “War Eagle” leave the ark instead of the dove.  (That’s what happens when a group of Auburn fans is in charge of the Bible Story!)

“Peeps” were distributed at snack time.  Those marshmallow chicks were a huge hit with all the children from Bunnies on up--though we learned that Peeps and grass don’t mix.  The Bunnies were sticky from the sweets when they went outside and came in covered with grass!   Most of the Nannies had never tasted Peeps so they enjoyed them, too, and laughed at the sight!

Nancy wants us to share a story from last night’s WOW time.  Preston asked Karla to pray aloud in Spanish, but she chose instead to pray in English.  At the end of her prayer, Ron (who is visiting with us) jumped up and said, “It’s a miracle!  All these years, I have wanted to learn Spanish and I understood every word she said.”  Don’t let anyone tell you that mission trips are all work and no play.  For every tear we shed, we laugh so much more.

Here are some of our team member’s favorite things from the trip:
Jan has been pleased to see which children have gone home since her last trip.  She likes knowing that they are doing well, and meeting the new children.  It is great to know that soon they will be healthy and go back to their families as well.  She has also liked seeing the garden and how wonderful it looks and the progress Basilio has been making with the garden and the bees.  She is thrilled to have the ability to sponsor a child through the Sponsorship program, as well.

The children have stolen J.P’s heart.  They are so genuine and loving, which cuts through the junk of the world to show what is really important.  The Bible says that if you don’t have love, you have nothing.  The Center illustrates the importance of love.  He now has five non-favorites.  J.P. also loves the way that all the churches have come together as a team.

Marvin appreciates the folks he is working with and how willing, loving, and open to making new friends they are.

Gary has enjoyed the scenery, including its beauty and the volcanoes.  And, of course, he loves the kids.

Karen says that the smiles and the hugs from the children make it worth the journey!

Jerry has enjoyed meeting everyone on the team.  Also, the food has been outstanding!

Cameo realized how much she is able to impact the lives of the Nannies as she gives massages.  It is as though when she blesses the Nannies through the gift of serenity, she is blessing every child at the Center.

Debbie is so happy to be working with the Canaries and recognizing how much they need our love and physical touch.  They respond so well and crawl to you, putting their heads on your shoulder.

Eryn looked forward to seeing her favorite for a whole year and got her wish as she has been able to snuggle with him all week.  She moved from the Canaries to the Bunnies just to be with him.

Israel has been impressed with how well the team came together.  Even though people are from all different parts of the country, after a few short days, we are all friends, even family.

Charlene has enjoyed the devotions this week.  Each one has touched her in a different way at exactly the right moment.

Anita is enjoying travelling with her aunt.  They are both enjoying serving together, having fun, falling in the love with the children and being together.

Amber is enjoying interacting with Lupe who even asked her to hold her grandson.  Lupe is always so happy and laughing.  What an example she is for us.

Want to have your own favorite moment at the Center?  It is as easy as choosing a week, filling out the application and doing it!

Always work to be done in the kitchen!
Another 'non-favorite'?
