Hebrews 10:35-36 says “So do not
throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it
brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will receive
all that he has promised.” At the start of our journey following Christ, we can
feel emotions such as passion, hope and assurance. As we journey along the road
of following Christ, there will undeniably come pot holes, rain storms, broken
parts and other circumstances that can cause us to become discouraged. Oftentimes,
we may want to quit when circumstances become too tough. We can quit
relationships, careers, ministries and even God if we allow ourselves to be
overcome by situations.
The only way to keep on placing
one foot in front of the other is to stay connected with The Lord. A
combination of prayer, studying the Bible and trusting in the Holy Spirit,
allows us to keep on enduring those hardships that come along the road. Christ
never promised that following him would be simple or easy; oftentimes it’s
quite the opposite. One thing we can be assured of is His presence with us as
we are obedient to His will. One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is patience
and so it is very critical to our success to maintain a steady pace so that we
can finish the course with joyful hearts. The Lord promises that you will
receive great reward, and I’m sure it’s safe to say you agree with me that I
can’t wait to place the crowns I’ve received at my Lord, my Savior’s feet!
This morning began with our team in
high anticipation of returning to the center to see the precious faces that we
left last night. Tight bonds have already been formed between the children and
our team. Kristen, Georgia and Carol spent the day trimming the children’s hair
and passing out lollipops to the children as a special treat! Some were not so
thrilled at the sight of scissors but the salon team was wonderful at calming
them and now they are so “bonita” and “guapo” with their fresh styles.
Unfortunately the canary room has
multiple ill children; their sicknesses include runny noses, colds, flu and 5th’s
disease, which is so very common here. Dr. Alvarez has been treating them as
effectively as possible with supplies on hand and medications. This is where it’s
critical for us as brothers and sisters in Christ to come along side and give kind
words of encouragement and support to each other. For when we are weak, He
makes us strong.
Many of these children are
hurting in so many ways and sometimes we are unsure of what to do to help, but
in these moments God wants us to draw near to Him by praying. There are so many
instances of team members seeing the pain that malnourishment and illness has
caused these children. For instance, yesterday a little one year old named
Jessica was inconsolable, so one worker placed hands upon her back and prayed to
God to ease her pain and to let her feel His presence. As soon as the prayer
began, peace and comfort entered the room from the presence of the Holy Spirit.
The child is eating again today and slowly regaining her strength to do normal
activities. James 5:16 says “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray
for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is
powerful and effective.”
To provide an update on Samuel’s
health, he was taken last night to the clinic, where they were able to ease his
pain. Currently, they are running more blood work and tests on him to determine
what is causing the kidney infections. Please keep sweet Samuel in your
prayers.
