Guatemala, November 18, 2013

We all have a special calling on our life. Sometimes we tend to sit in the background and try not to let our comfortable lives be changed. But God tells us He will finish what He started no matter how stubborn we may seem to be.
“And I am certain that God, who began a good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Philippians 1:6
We must step outside of our comfort zone and follow after God. Jeanette Lethers, who is on her 12th trip to Guatemala, gave her testimony on that this morning. Sharing how she tried to sit in the background and be comfortable, but God had a special work for her here and it was going to be completed. As with Jeanette, so many others can truly relate to this calling now that they have come to the center and been amazed at the work the nannies do with the children.
Just walking into the canaries and seeing dirty diapers on so many children, nannies trying to get to each one, but not enough hands to go around. Each team member jumped in, full force, as they entered the room, trying to help in any way possible. Others went into the dolphins, met each special child with special needs, and noticed there was one child under a blanket to keep it dark so the 2 week old 4 lb baby could stay sleeping. Then additional team members made their way into the Bunnies and Ducks (the toddlers) and met with tons of runny noses, smiling faces, and plenty of dirty diapers.
This trip has also been blessed to have Dr. Peter Alvarez from Lakeland go around to each of the rooms, visiting with each of the children, and assessing their health needs. He found that Irma definitely has a syndrome which may also be causing her heart problems, and they are going to send her to get more help. He also found that Samuel (our 13 year old who looks about 7) is having so many problems getting well because he has a urinary disease that can be quickly cured by an easy surgery that we will be looking into getting for him.

Each one of these team members truly has a special calling, and God has called them here for this time so that he can continue to bring to completion the work he has started in them. Are you being called here? Has God stirred in your heart a desire to go on a mission trip and you just can’t figure out where or when? The only appropriate answer to that stirring is the same one that Isaiah said to God in Isaiah 6:8c, “Here I am. Send me.”
