Heading home from the DR...tired but happy!

What a week! This team from Grand Island Baptist has been so incredibly productive,  right from the beginning. Most of our work was wiring and plumbing, and the Lord provided us with two experienced electricians and a neurosurgeon for the "delicate" plumbing work (its all about cutting tubes, right?)

The ladies all pitched in too, helping the guys by bringing blocks and other supplies from the containers we use for storage, and couldn't resist cleaning out the houses, as well. But their main job, and the most important part of the trip, was the ladies' Bible study and the work with the children at the school (see separate blog entry).

One of the highlights of the week was a big meeting we had with all the government entities we are working with on the project: Public Works, the electric company, water and sewer, the Agriculture Department, and a whole bunch of contractors. We finally got the "who-what-when stuff" all worked out, and hopefully now things will start to pick up speed!

The team did so well on the electrical and plumbing that we decided to have a go at blocking the rest of the 7th house, and by the end of the day on Wednesday it was half done and poured with concrete, despite a very heavy thunderstorm that hit just as we were finishing up.

Thursday dawned cool and overcast with occasional sprinkles,  perfect weather for our last day's work. We fired up the mixer, and some of the team helped "feed" it, along with Pastor Santo.

By the end of the day all the walls were up.

And it was time to say tearful farewells, especially to the kids from the school, who unexpectedly showed up to see us off!

What an amazing team and amazing week! Again the Lord sent us just the skills we needed, and we had great weather, health and safety. We put in conduit and boxes and pulled wire on 6 houses, did the plumbing for all 7, and still found time to block up the last house! All of this with a ladies Bible study and mini-VBS at the school every day!

This is a tired but happy group that will be heading for the airport in the morning, with a whole new perspective on the world. Please pray for the team's travel safety, and consider coming on one of these trips yourself for the experience of a lifetime!
