Friday, May 18

All this week, while our construction team of 19 guys were getting all the attention for the dramatic progress they made on the orphanage building, we have had 3 wonderful, very dedicated ladies who have quietly spent every day with the orphans, teaching them the English words for numbers and colors and parts of the body, and learning the same in Creole, singing songs, playing games and doing crafts, and just being there to love on them and give them hope. Hats off to Ashley, Sandra and Stacy for their servant's hearts and hard work. We tend to forget that these are very needy children in every way. Stacy, who is going to India in July to do research on NGO's for her degree, made up a list for us of the children and their specific medical needs. They all need to be wormed. Many have a nasty scalp condition. Some have ear infections. Wilson cut his leg and got a bad infection. The ladies cleaned and dressed his wound every day, and he was taken to a doctor for meds, which he is taking and are making him better already. Medical help is expensive and hard to find here but Pastor Edmond does the best he can. Please don't forget to pray for these children and their needs. We are trying to feed them, provide for their medical needs, and pay the salaries of their caregivers and teachers through a foundation set up by Bill Nallia called Children First (wtnbill@aol.com), but there is never enough money and it is so heartbreaking to see the kids still in need. We need to remember that while getting them out of the miserable conditions they are living in now and into decent housing is a high priority, these children need our help, our love, and most of all the joy and peace that comes from knowing our Savior, Jesus Christ.
