Sunday, May 13
After a long delay (several, actually), the groups from Kentucky and Florida arrived safely in Port-au-Prince on Saturday afternoon. After everyone settled in, we had a good kick-off meeting and then had to move the tables inside for dinner as it started to pour. We were worried that we might have a lot of rain that would hinder our work, but Sunday morning it dawned clear! We all loaded up in the bus and headed out to Pastor Edmond's church for a very spirit-filled service like many team members had never experienced. These people really know how to worship their God!
After the service, everyone, including the kids, went over to the construction site and circled up for a prayer before we started work.

Then the ladies left in our bus to go over to the orphanage with the kids for the afternoon, and we guys broke up into teams, with our
usual crew: Marc, Joseph and David, mixing the mortar.
Some of the guys got out the saw and started cutting rebar.
While others made rings and started wiring up the assemblies for the bond beams.
Meanwhile our expert block layers got to work on the Phase 1 building.
By the end of the day Sunday, after only a half a day's work, we were four blocks high almost all the way around. These guys are good!
And it looks like Wowo (Joseph) had already had enough for one day!
Tomorrow we will have the cement mixer, and we will start to fill the cells that have rebar in them with grout, and make the openings for the windows as the wall gets higher. The way this group has been working, they will be finished with the wall and have time to work on the bond beam before they leave. Awesome!
God has already blessed us in so many ways. Everyone has stayed healthy and injury-free. Although it is rainy season and we got rained on Saturday night, there was no more standing water at the site and we had no rain all day, even though storms were all around us.
And the Lord keeps surprising us (why should we be surprised?) by providing us with just what we need just when we need it. We had been struggling with how to get the roof done the way the architects designed it, fearing that we would not be able to find anyone here who knew how to do it; and right out of the blue we were shown a building with a similar type of metal truss system, and were introduced to the Haitian engineer who knows how to build them! We shared our plans with him, and he is now off designing the trusses for us. Praise the Lord! He continues to bless our work in wonderful and powerful ways, and we can't wait to see where He leads us next!
