HAITI - May 14

Monday, May 14

Today we got an early start: devotions at 6:15, breakfast at 6:30 and on the bus by 7:00. The ladies stayed behind to go directly to the old orphanage in Vidal's truck to visit the kids a little later, after the kids were up and ready for them.
After our prayer circle with Pastor Edmond, the guys hit the ground running, since everyone knew the drill from yesterday. Today was all about block. We had one crew of block cutters,

And three block laying crews.

Even one of the orphanage boys, Yves, helped out on one of the block laying crews.

Today we had the cement mixer, so we could produce grout to put into the cells in the blocks for strength.

And crews to transport the grout and put it into buckets for the pourers.

And the rebar crew to follow along and put in the next course of rebar.

The result: seven courses of blocks all the way around the main Phase 1 building and leads and 4 courses on most of the bathroom. There were a lot of very tired but very happy workers getting on the bus to go back today!

Tomorrow we will try and get to the magic number of 10 blocks, so we can move on to the bond beam, but we will quit early so the entire team can go visit the kids. This is the high point of the trip for most of us, and the first time most will see where the kids live now. It is always inspiring and depressing at the same time. We want so badly to finish enough of the new orphanage to get the kids moved out of the difficult conditions they are currently in, especially during rainy season. It puts names and faces on the ones we are working so hard for. Teams always work even harder, although that seems hardly possible, after this visit.

The Lord blessed us with another great day: no rain, and everyone has stayed safe and healthy. Please continue praying for us and for the children we are here to serve, and give Him the Glory!
