HAITI - February 8

Haiti - Wednesday, February 8

Jeudi ap rive! (Thursday is coming!) This is hump day, so the team hit the ground running. The first stepped corner (called a lead) was done yesterday, so Bill headed off to do the second one. After it was done, we started to fill in the blocks in between these first two leads. Even Pastor Andy got his hand in! One row done, second one almost done.

Meanwhile, Pastor Edmond's guys began working on the front wall so they can install the gate. They started with the horizontal bond beam, which ties together the wall and strengthens it, then put their own "leads" on the corners so they can block it up five more blocks high.

And while this was going on, our intrepid digging team finished off the second trench and did the third one too. We're ready for the clean fill now and then we can put in the pipes.

This is the view from the bridge, where you can see the main septic drain field on the left, and the Phase 1 building going up on the right.

From the slab of the Pastor House you can see the Phase 1 building taking shape on the left, the septic crew at work on the right, and the work on the gate in the background.

First foundation wall all done! And a beautiful piece of work, too! Bill has completed all four leads, and the second wall has been started, so now all we have to do is fill in the blocks on the other walls.

As we were packing up to go back, we could see Pastor Edmond's guys putting the forms around the big pillars in front on each side of the gate (they won't be that high - the Haitians absolutely hate to cut a piece of wood that they can use again unless it is necessary!). The pillar will only be as high as the five block high "lead" you see next to it. There are electrical wires embedded in the pillars so they can have lights on the outside.

We had beautiful weather again today, with just enough wind to keep things cooled off. There were a lot of stiff bodies out there first thing this morning, but we prayed in our circle that the Lord would restore our strength so we could continue with His work, ....and He did! The guys were not nearly as tired today as they were yesterday and Monday, although they all worked just as hard. I think they are getting into shape!

Tomorrow we will try and finish as much of the foundation wall as we can, and take some time to go back and see the children again one last time before we head back on Friday. Please continue to pray for us, only one day to go!

B&B: your gift was delivered today and much appreciated!
