HAITI - Feb. 26

Haiti - Sunday, February 26

What a beautiful Sunday!  We began with a wonderful, spirit-filled church service at Pastor Edmond's church, which now has a partial roof on it.  Several Haitian pastors gave messages as well as our own Greg Gaddis. We had several visitors and new Christians from the neighborhood.  Even David, the hard worker from across the road, who originally led the opposition to us, was there!  David is now attending the church regularly! The children from the orphanage were also there, and the singing was incredible, as usual, as some of the children had prepared special songs for us that were wonderful.  All the children looked more healthy than we have ever seen them now that they are getting an adequate diet and vitamins every day. The children who came to the IBG house last time for treatment are all better now, and even Menise is completely cured of her scalp problem.

God has really blessed these children and the work He has set us to do here, which we always remind ourselves is not just about construction!  Praise the Lord for the work He is doing and for allowing us to be His hands and feet in this place!

After church we went over to see the progress at the site and found that the new gate is totally installed and operational now, and painted red.

The wall is full height across the front and two sections down each side, and six blocks high almost all the way around, with only a few sections at four blocks, and the latrine that Pastor Edmond had built for us is now complete (the ladies are very happy about that!).

The place for the small side gate is built up full height and a temporary door installed for security.

Pastor Edmond's crew will continue their work on the wall this week, finishing the bond beam all around before moving on to the next rows of blocks.

The next thing we noticed was that the deep-water well was being dug and is almost finished!  It will be 120 feet deep, and the water coming out of it is almost drinkable already. Tomorrow the pump will be installed, and we will use this water from now on to build with.

Our crew has two experienced concrete block masons, and they think we can finish the Phase 1 foundation wall in two days easily. Then we will begin putting in the fill and preparing the plumbing and remesh for the slab to be poured. The block crew will then shift over to the Pastor House and complete the first floor block wall there. Some of the rest of us will continue working on the main septic field, spreading new fill where the drain lines will go.

We have our work cut out for us this week, but the plan is in place and we have the team to do it.  Please pray that we will continue to have beautiful, mild weather, and that we will remain safe and healthy in our work.   God has blessed us so richly already, and we are all looking forward to seeing what He will accomplish next.
