Well, today was our last day at the center and we all felt so special. The staff served us homemade tortillas, a special drink that tasted like corn chowder, it was all delicious. We had our regular brown bag lunch plus nachos and salsa. Yum yum!! They set up tables inside which were saw horses as the base and pieces of wood as the table. This reminded me of my days as a child in Key West… Since it was inside due to rain, they even brought grass in from outside and placed it all around the table. We then served the workers and gave them each a little gift. It was very emotional as we each shared what one group meant to the other group. We played a game similar to bingo that was in Spanish and we used black beans as our markers. It was very fun.
Aside from the farewell activities, it was pretty much a regular day today at the center. One of the little babies, Daniel has chicken pox and we fear William and Samuel will be next… if not the entire Canary unit (this is what the little babies are named).
I learned that the older toddler boys have to sit on the potty after breakfast every day until they do their business. Seems some get impatient and take the potty with them wherever they think they have to be. Picture these little guys carrying their potty chair around. They obeyed and did not get off their potty. You have to give them credit.
Today we gave four of the older girls dresses and yarn dolls our ladies and youth made. Wait til we show you their pictures! You would have thought we gave them a million dollars or they were just named Miss Guatemala. They were twirling around and running with the biggest smiles on their precious faces.
At the end of the day we all took our babies out to the lobby for a final group picture. Then we put all our babies in their beds said some tearful goodbyes and boarded our bus for the ride back to the hotel. It was a quiet ride with lots of sniffling. The day went by WAY too fast. Most of us prayed over the babies throughout the day.
Our final evening together was great. Our translators and our bus drivers joined us as well. Again more tearful goodbyes but we promised to keep in touch.
We have so much more to share but it will have to be later as 4:30am will be here before we know it.
One thing, actually two things, you must hear that happened while we were here. Tuesday night Fuego (fire) the volcano erupted and this morning during our devotions there was an earth quake. Obviously neither was large enough to cause concern or you would have heard about them on the news. Just something else the Lord allowed us to experience as part of His creation.
We are well and anxious to see you all tomorrow. Our plane arrives at 1:52 so we should be at the church around 4 or so.
Thank you for your prayers and we hope you have been blessed by our mission trip.
See you tomorrow.
