Guatemala November 12-18, 2011

Wednesday

From our correspondent on the ground in Guatemala, here is the latest.

A first haircut for Santos. He is the youngest of four here in the center. His oldest brother, Simeon, has been returned a number of times. He is very sweet and loves to help with yard work outside. Back to the haircuts. The children sat very still, quiet and patient while they got their hair cuts. We are amazed at how well behaved the children are. When we show them their picture after their haircut, they get the biggest smiles, especially the older girls. We “guesstimated” that there were about 20 haircuts given today. When we leave the center in the evening, the older toddlers come out, wave and say good bye. It is priceless.

On our way home, a few of us thought we saw a young boy doing CPR on another. So Samuel, our driver, made a u~turn in a big bus on a narrow mountain road (very impressive) to go back. The kids were playing and were fine. We're not sure if they were trying to pull one over on us or not, but if so, it worked.

Tonight was our last time to shop and as all of us got to take a tuc tuc back to the hotel. What a treat. Everyone was at dinner tonight and feeling good. The other team has had 3 of their 4 down with a bug.
Dinner was wonderful. It was our last dinner at the hotel and the table was beautifully decorated with candles, chargers under the plates, and beautiful poinsettia plants as the center pieces (which are grown here in Guatemala). We had bananas foster for dessert.

As we shared our WOW moments tonight, we were all in agreement that we definitely want to return. What an amazing ministry to the people of Guatemala. The nannies, the cooks, nurses, laundry guy, the director of the center, bus driver, and Howie are truly devoted to the children. There were tears tonight as we talked about leaving the children that have wrapped their tiny fingers around our hearts.
We have a couple of specific prayer requests. One prayer is that the judge does not take Rosa and her twin (William) away from their parents and send them to an orphanage 6 hours away. Another set of twins, Veronica and Daniel, have a new brother that is 1 month and 3 weeks old. It is obvious to the untrained eye that he needs to be at the center as well. The dad will not allow the mom to leave him. But, she does get formula when she visits. Pray dad will allow the baby to become a resident of the center.

Well, please pray for us too as we love and nourish, then leave the babies until the Lord brings us back.

Thank you all for your prayers for us and the children.

Until next time!!!
