Guatemala November 12-18, 2011

Well I thought I would be smart and start my blogging early and continue throughout the day. It is now 2:30 and I pressed a button by accident that said "discard" and it was gone. I am not happy. So you are only going to get the meat of our mission trip.
When we arrived this morning the babies had already been bathed and fed. So we started washing down the beds, walls and putting clean linens on their beds. About mid morning we were asked who wanted to go on a field trip with some of the babies. The field trip was to the county health department for checkups and shots. There were about 8 of us with 10 babies. One of our translators, Olivia, was given the opportunity to invite a woman and her children to check out the center. There was/is a rumor that the Americans come and take the children back to the states and keep them as slaves or sell them as slaves. She was very happy for us to take pictures of her, her twins, and the other two children. We will print copies of the pictures we took of her family and give them to her when she comes to the center on Thursday.
Upon our return, it was time to give the babies lunch and put them down for naps. We cleaned all their toys, washed dishes, swept floors etc.
Then we had our lunch. We have a beautiful area on the property where we gather for lunch. This is when we talk about our morning’s events. We learned that one of the girls, Odilia, 2 1/2 years old, sweet as can be and smart, is considered an orphan. Once she goes to the orphanage, which we hope will be a very long time, she will probably live there until she is of age (18 years old). Please pray for her. Several of our babies are sick and have to be quarantined. They don’t understand why they can't come out and play like the others. After lunch we go back to our areas and some help out with inventory (the items we brought down have to be inventoried.) We may be here a while! The workers have their lunch and break at 3pm, at and at this time we share a devotional with them.
While the workers are in their meeting, wee go back in with the children and clean them up and give them their afternoon snack. We play with them, and then clean them up again. We have them back in their beds by 4:20 as we have to be on the bus by 4:30.

Some of us stopped at the tile shop to purchase some wonderful souvenirs and/or gifts while others went on to the market.
After dinner tonight some went to McDonalds for dessert or much missed fries. The McDonalds here is supposed to be beautiful. You'll have to find out from someone who went. I could not do any more walking today. Some of us are heading to the Jacuzzi in hopes of physical ailment relief!
Please pray for Jon, a team member from another church team as he is not feeling well. Until tomorrow…

Your mission team from Guatemala.
