THURSDAY
Our last day of mission work….June 23rd. The team finished painting the fence at the nursing home. What a job!!!! “It looks great considering our tools,” was said as we passed by it to admire our hard work. Some team members visited with patients while others painted pictures to brighten up the rooms. The place is in need of a lot of work and needs many material items. However, the staff is full of joy and love for our God and the patients. It is obvious the patients are well cared for each day. The facility now has several new toilets and sinks thanks to a couple of our hard working men. As we left, we made a list of items for the next mission trip to bring. God’s work will continue here.
We completed one day of VBS with another church in the area. These students and teachers were a joy. Smiling faces sang simple songs. We knew the songs in English and learned them in Spanish. The kids sang “If you’re Saved and You Know It” and “Jesus Loves Me.” Many children said “thank you” in English as we gave them a pair of flip flops, a T-shirt, and a little stuffed animal. They were so excited and sweet. This was a blessing! Thank to everyone that helped with this project.
A long exhale………………………………………..The bus ride back to the hotel was quiet as some slept. It is hard to believe the nine months of preparation and the five days of work are over.
This trip resembled very little of my expectations. That is true for most of the team from Georgia. We have grown through this experience. God has been in control and taken care of all our steps. I see Him equipping us for later journeys. I KNOW how to run a VBS in a different country now…..well, I know more than when I came. Our team has been flexible and worked hard this week. God has blessed us.
