TUESDAY
Day Two at the nursing home….painting was the task for the day. Our workers were spotted with white dots as they painted a wire fence with THIN white paint. More painted ended up on them than on the wire fence. One team of workers stayed clean by washing the feet of the residents. Dulce translated the funny stories to us and we laughed and laughed. Hearts were blessed on both sides. The neighbor across the street brought our group COLD sweet tea for us as a treat….made with filtered water. They were so impressed by the gringos working so hard in the heat, they wanted to give us something in return…and we were very appreciative of their gift!
We have even more children on the second day of VBS. We were more organized (and we needed it) and had even more fun. The youngest group taught the American teachers their songs. They enjoyed watching the teachers try to learn the motions and the songs. The boys played soccer with the kids prior to the start of VBS….the kids were screaming with laughter. Lots of hugs and kisses were given as we said, “los veo manana!”
Wow time has been an amazing time as we share each day of how we saw Jesus at work. As each person shares, it is wonderful to hear they are being changed because they are “giving of themselves.”
WEDNESDAY
Devotions started the day of PERFECTLY….take up your cross. Breakfast in Nicaragua is the BEST meal of the day. Roberto fixes a killer omelet exactly as asked….he speaks some good English also. There is more fruit that you can imagine, french toast, little donuts, fried cheese, beans with rice, tortillas, cereal, juices, and so much more.
The Residents had their nails painted today. Of course, we heard lots more stories too…some were the same. They switched to spray paint on the wire fence and made A LOT of progress. The youth danced around in ants beds as they painted the outside of the wall. Two of our men fixed the toilets and will install a sink. These are much needed improvements. FBC Rincon (and Dulce Dudley, too) be proud of their youth andleaders as they are truly are the hands and feet of Jesus.
The last day of VBS brought some tears and lots of joy. Many kids were waiting on us when we arrived early. The girls even followed us to the corner as we turned around. Flip-flop distribution was WILD. Each child received not one but TWO pairs of flip-flops, toothpaste, and a tooth brush. One pair was for them and one pair was for them to share with someone else in need. We want them to share the love of Christ with others.
We rejoice as 14 of the children accepted Christ as their personal Savior today! We also had about 30 new children enroll for the program today. What an incredible ministry the ladies at Bethel Baptist Church have…over 200 “street kids” come each week to have a hot meal and also are being discipled and loved by these ladies.
