Guatemala, Monday, July 15, 2013

To say that the first day at the Center was overwhelming in a lot of ways would be an understatement.  The tour of the Center at the beginning of the day was extremely eye opening and helpful.  It’s safe to say that many tears were shed.

Throughout the day, teamwork within the group was obvious.  When anything was needed it seemed like someone was always there to be supportive and help out.

To begin the week, it was neat to realize that Christ equips the body with whatever He deems fit for any specific time.  Our team has the fortune of being equipped with a physical therapist by the name of Mary Beck.  Today, throughout the day, she worked with one of the “Bunnies” that is developmentally delayed.  Her name is Maria.  Most of the day, she was very uncomfortable and cried.  However, by the end of the day, it seemed that she got a little bit of relief because she actually smiled and laughed with Mary Beck.

Also, the staff have begun to learn a Bible verse each week.  This is intended to help them learn English.  Howie actually promised chocolate to workers that can say their verse in English by tomorrow.  Who doesn’t love chocolate, right?

Even though we are tired, we understand that we are being the hands and feet of Christ and serving as He would serve.
