DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - Sunday, July 21

Day 1- WELCOME!

Ministry in the community- This morning we had an opportunity to walk through the church and ended up staying for the teenage girls' Sunday school class. We learned later that this group is unique because, where as we would have classes for both genders, there is only a class for girls. It's been difficult to engage boys over the age of 12, but Iglesia Fundamento Biblico is doing great work reaching out to this age group and many of these boys are now serving and even work security for the church. :-)

Our team was overwhelmed with how welcoming the church body was as a whole! The worship team put a great deal of effort into preparing for our visit and we were welcomed with a bilingual worship service! Such an exciting experience to worship side by side with fellow members of the body in both of our native languages. All of us were welcomed with open arms, and we are so excited to be get started this week!

Most of our day was spent at the church preparing for VBS this week. VBS is a very special event for the church, and allows them to reach many of the children from the surrounding community. Typically the church is able to serve around 250 kids in one session, and has to turn many kids away because of their limited resources. This year, our team of volunteers and donations have helped the church stretch out their resources to allow for 500 children to be served in 2 sessions (one morning and one evening). Praise the Lord for His provision!

Prayer Requests:

1. That children's hearts will be open to the Lord's work this week, and that they would have the courage to step forth and make a decision for Christ.

2. That OUR hearts will be fluid and ready to serve wherever, however we are needed.

3. Also, please pray for our the team - that our health will remain in tip-top shape, to keep up with all the craziness of this week!

4. That the Lord would continue to provide resources that would allow even more children to attend VBS next year.  Even with the expansion to 500 kids this week, many children are still expected to have to be turned away ...
