Some great things happened today in addition to caring for the children. Bethany, Jim, Samuel and Basilio were able to look into the bee hives (using the bee suits that were donated to the Center) and check to see how much honey is being produced. They are eager to use the new honey extractor that was also donated. Patrick and Parnell worked to lay blocks in the new chicken house. Though one chicken kept giving them “the stink eye,” they were excited to have exactly the number of bricks needed to fit into the house. In addition, Jim fixed one of the sinks that was broken, and Jessica and Parnell began planting the garden.
There is so much more to do at the Center than simply work with children. Construction and maintenance teams are urgently needed. Please consider coming to work at the Center even if you are not completely interested in working with the children (although they will steal your hearts no matter how much you might try to stay away from them!)
Here are some of the things that were mentioned in WOW time today:
Dr. Dave reminded the group that the Gospel is more acceptable when it is demonstrated. He asked everyone to consider how they can share Christ’s love with the workers in a tangible way. He shared that just as Christ came in human form, when we serve, we take on the heart of Christ and minister as He did.
Bethany thanked Sally for playing the flute to the children each day and noted how remarkable it is when they drop everything to come and listen. Billy’s reaction was particularly sweet. She thanked Jim and Samuel for their help with the bees and Jessica and Parnell for their help with the garden. She said that with their help, she finally feels like she is accomplishing something outside that will help the children in the Center. She also told how sweet it was when she was greeted by one of the Squirrels this morning and the little girl tried to button her shirt.
Kim told about how Alex was so angry yesterday and cried when she corrected him. Today, she tried to remember how miserable he must be and gave him extra love and he responded. She asked everyone to pray for Maria Asuncion whose left leg is hurt making it difficult for her to walk.
Courtney thanked Sierra for working so hard with a smile on her face all day, and Isaac who cleaned maps and changed his first diaper! She added that it can be overwhelming to know how needy the children are, but she feels honored that God is using her this week.
Sierra said how thankful she is to be here this week and how blessed she is for the opportunity. She added that it was so hard to hold a five month old who is only four pounds, but that she knows that the Center is doing a great work.
Ben was blessed to see Madeline come back for a visit and to know that her family is still receiving assistance even though their daughter is healthy again.
Jeannette said that she and her husband have been praying since they first met Madeline over a year ago that they would be able to minister to her family and to continue to be a part of Madeline’s life. She said that the reunion was sweet, and she is grateful to be able to continue to influence Madeline.
Patrick noted how God is in all things, even the little ones. He said that they had exactly enough blocks to finish the chicken coop, and Samuel had exactly the part that Jim needed for the sink. Parnell added that God works a tapestry of people and supplies that humans could never duplicate. It is all a miracle by God.
Jan said that she has been praying since she met Brian that he would smile this week. Not only did he smile, but he laughed when Patrick came to play with him and feed him. She said it is amazing how he follows Patrick with his eyes when Patrick leaves. She praised God that Brian has made remarkable progress.
Cathy said that she is learning to be still during her work with the Canaries, particularly when it takes one hour to feed Maria Fernanda (who has a cleft palate) four ounces of milk.
Kristy was touched when the boys were fascinated by the video of the Easter procession that she had on her camera.
Caitlyn thanked Ben, Isaac and Noah for the great role models that they are with the Ducks (little boys). She noted that they need more young men to come and work with them.
Kate thanked Isaac for his compassion and for the work that he had done. At one time, he had two Bunnies in his lap. She also commented on the great patience of the children as they wait for their food.
Jim was amazed that he was able to use the beekeeping skills taught to him by his father over fifty years ago to help teach the Guatemalan people new skills. He was grateful for his father and the information he shared. He was also impressed with the willingness of the Guatemalan people to learn new skills and to share those skills with others.
Please pray for some of our team members who are not feeling well from respiratory and stomach issues. Everyone is eager to continue their work tomorrow and no one wants to miss a day of going to the Center.
