Last Team, Last Day!
Time to finish up what we can and pack up to go home. Today we worked on the bond beam for the water tower, the two courses of block on the storeroom, and the last leads for the Phase One building. The water tower legs are all done up to 11 blocks, and Lou seems very happy with them!
Jeannette and Steve wired up the rebar assemblies that had already been cut yesterday, and they were set in place in the forms.
Which were rapidly being cut and tapcon'ed onto the columns.
And then we were ready to start pouring the concrete. Bring on the buckets!
All done. Beautiful job!
Meanwhile, the storeroom block layers were hard at work.
And Jeannette got to lay two of the blocks under the watchful eye of Bill Jones.
All done with the store room. Ready now for windows, door, and floor/roof.
Bill and Andy then switched back to the Phase One building and built the last two leads three blocks high.
While you-know-who comfortably observed the proceedings!
What a great job everyone did this week. Team three exceeded expectations just as much as the two previous teams. We had no idea when we started this week that we would have the storeroom and water tower this far along. And all that with great progress on the Phase One wall, too!
Almost regretfully, we packed up the tools for next time and were off to visit the children one last time. As usual, we were greeted with open arms and hearts.
The bonds we formed this week, built on those of all previous teams going all the way back to January, will remain strong until the next teams can get here.
We serve an awesome God. If nothing else convinces us of this, consider that again He provided just the right people at just the right time (block layers, an architect, "doctor" John), and that in the middle of Haiti's rainy season, while the Dominican Republic next door was getting hammered by rain, He gave us 3 1/2 weeks of perfect, dry, sunny weather to build in! We are convinced that He is determined to show us His Glory in the building of this orphanage, the caring for the children, and the witness we are showing to the entire area of darkness around us.
Praise His Holy Name! And COME JOIN US for the experience of a lifetime in
Haiti!
