Have you ever wondered what Heaven might look like? I believe we have arrived…well arrived in Guatemala at least.
Our team of 36 women and 1 man (Ron) has arrived in breathtaking Antigua, Guatemala. Ron must have really wanted to get into the Malnutrition Center theme because he is one lucky Duck to be with 36 amazing Chicks! (If you’ve been to the Center you know what I mean.) Considering our team came from so many different places we all arrived right on time. We had 29 women flying from Orlando to Miami; Ron, Cynthia, and Karina catching our flight in Miami to Guatemala; Jeanette flying solo from Lakeland to Guatemala, and 4 women joining us in Guatemala all the way from Greenville, South Carolina. With all of us together and so many extra bags of supplies we still flew through customs without a hitch.
This team has been rocking and rolling and raring to go since we got our bags loaded on the truck! And let’s just say, when you’re working with Ron and Cynthia and Orphan’s Heart, as soon your feet hit the ground you'd better be ready to start running!
Julie and Cynthia took the majority of our group on the bus to grab some lunch at Pollo Campero, but 8 of us went with Ron to the local equivalent of “Costco” to buy food supplies for a special project we are heading up on Friday. This special project came about because the son of one of the team members decided that instead of gifts for his birthday he wanted to raise money for the people in Guatemala; and when we told the rest of the team, many other members rallied around the idea. We were able to raise enough money to feed 50 families with the staples they will need for about 3 months, including: sugar, salt, coffee, beans, rice, pasta, and oil. And later this week we will be bagging up all the supplies to deliver when the parents come to the Malnutrition Center to visit their kids.
Another big thing happening this week is Tim…well not Tim the handyman, but Tim the playground builder. A new playground has arrived for the Center, and we will be helping Tim put it together.
Also, this is the debut trip for our new mission coordinator, Karina! She is already doing an amazing job, and we are so happy to have her join us.
And if that wasn’t enough, what team would be complete without a little sweet and spicy? We brought our own doctor Dulce (sweet/candy in Spanish) and a devotion leader named Spicy, to be exact!
With all this going on, I can already tell this is going to be another amazing week at the Guatemala Malnutrition Center, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store!
Well it’s late, and I need to tuck in and say goodnight!
Buenas Noches and Hasta Manana!
