GUATEMALA - April 2

As a previous intern, being back here for the week is like being able to breathe.  I feel so at ease and at home, not to mention surrounded by love and beauty.  Guatemala is a unique place with a people of unique kindness and I am so grateful to be back here.

I was shaking with excitement as I got off the coaster and stepped into the Center on Monday morning!  I was hoping that the kids would remember me, and I was not disappointed!  I walked into the bathroom where the "Chicks" were getting ready, and as soon as I opened the door, Andres threw his hands up towards me and yelled “Mama!”

So many ninos have left since the last time I was here, and it is a bitter sweet feeling. I am so glad to know that they are home with their families and are growing into healthy little children! At the same time it is hard to know I may never see them again--but that is part of this place!

On a different note, another day at the Center has meant another baby...two, to be exact.  We had two new arrivals today- a set of sisters- Vilma and Jocelyn. One of our newest bunnies, Sergio, has been here for a little less than a week and is having a really hard time adjusting.  Your prayers would be great for peace for that baby!  Natali Noemi came back last week as well!

There are so many great things going on here this week.  First of all, as of today, Andres and Gerson are officially DUCKS!!  I can’t believe how much they are growing and understanding!  It’s hilarious to watch them interact with each other and with the groups that come in.

Today Lucky (the Center administrator) decided we would celebrate the first day of summer by having a big pool party outside for the Ducks and Squirrels.  I can’t even put into words how much the kids loved it!  So many smiles, laughs, and squirt gun fights.  I don’t think anyone has ever fit that many children in an inflatable pool! The fact that Luckey was in the pool as well was an added bonus!

A group of high school students and their leaders, from Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA hung out at the Center for a while today. They do some really cool missions work in Guatemala City every year, but they always stop by and give a little time to be with the kids! Between the two groups, I don’t think I have ever seen that many people in center, but it was GREAT!  They loved the kids so much and the kids had a blast with them!  One of the best memories of the day was seeing Corey walk around with a baby in a sling around his neck- so funny!  Thanks for brightening up our day Lakewood!

Tonight is my first night ever staying at the Center, and another intern, Ella, and I are having a blast! The lovely ladies who work here made us dinner, and we talked with them for a good portion of the night. THEY ARE HILARIOUS!  But what was more hilarious was watching them suddenly running down the hall yelling in Spanish about something that was going on. When Ella and I got there, we realized that a pipe had broken in the Ducks' room, and there was a big flood of water already on the floor, and a nice constant flush of it coming out of a broken pipe!  So about seven of us got brooms and went to town trying to clear that place out.... at least the ducks thought it was funny!

It is Holy Week here, so there are many different things going on every day to celebrate.  It is really cool to watch-- but not fun to navigate through the already loco Guatemalan traffic!  All in all God is doing some really amazing things this week--like He always does--and our group is having a great time!  Thanks for the prayers and support, and God bless!

Hasta luego!
