HAITI - Feb. 29

Haiti - Wednesday, February 29

It's Moving Day! (earth moving, that is....) All of the block team has now moved over to work on the first floor walls of the Pastor House, leaving the earth moving team to finish the ramp over to the foundation. After carefully back-filling the wall so the trucks wouldn't crush it, we were finally able to get trucks backed up to it to dump inside. It is still a lot of work breaking down and spreading out the fill dirt, but at least it is INSIDE the foundation and doesn't have to be carried around in wheelbarrows!

And just when they thought they had seen it all, a BIG truck started delivering 17 cubic meters at a time! Ouch!

Meanwhile the block team has gotten an appreciative audience. The Haitians are amazed at the quality of their block work. Today we got almost all of the walls up to 6 blocks, no mean feat since we quit at 3 to be able to go visit the children.

This is the Phase 1 septic tank, built from scratch. It is one of three we will have eventually.

The team had been wanting to see the children in their current setting, so we headed over to the old orphanage. The kids greeted us with reserve at first, as usual, but quickly warmed up (with the help of a lot of balloons!), and before long we were all playing games and having a great time, including a wheelbarrow race!

The kids loved showing off, having their pictures taken and watching the crazy Americans carry on. The team members who had not seen their current living conditions were overwhelmed, just as everyone is that see it the first time. We were completely energized for the rest of the week from our experiences this afternoon. What a blessing to be able to serve the Lord in this place and be His presence here! Please continue to pray for the safety and health of the team and that the Lord will continue to guide us in all that we do.
