Haiti - Friday, February 3
Friday was wrapping up day. We did all the hard work the first four days: finished digging out the Pastor House septic field, finishing filling in the Pastor House foundation with fill and laying the remaining blocks in front, putting in the plumbing connections for the first floor bathroom, and putting on the wood forms for pouring the slab. Also digging the foundation footer (260 feet long by 3 feet wide by one foot deep), cutting and wiring in the rebar, and mixing and pouring 30 cubic yards of concrete. And in our spare time, digging a hole for the 5x10 foot main septic tank!
Today was for the children and visitation. We dropped most of the team off at the old orphanage for a visit with the kids. Howie found a friend in one of the staff's children:
Some of the crew went on to finish wiring in the remesh for the Pastor's House slab. After the posts go in on Sunday, we're ready to pour on Monday.
Many of us went a block away from the construction site to visit Pastor Felix's orphanage, which the ladies had visited several times during the week, and had a great time with the kids there. What beautiful and loving children. Even after only an hour everyone was crying when we left.
Before leaving, we bought two chairs from Pastor Edmond's father and brother. Good luck on the plane, Wayne!
What a wonderful week of work and fellowship, and above all, being the presence of Christ in this place! We ask for your prayers for people here: John Robert who needs eye surgery; Diddi and her orphanage nearby that was threatened and even invaded by neighbors angry at having "street boys" there; Maxau, a local voodoo priest that Kelly visited before and we went back and witnessed to again today. He said he would come to church on Sunday. Please pray that he does and that he decides to let Jesus into his heart.
What an awesome God we serve!
