HAITI - January 9 - Orphanage Team

Today was our first day at the orphanage. The children were so happy to see us. We brought them bubbles, T-shirts, flip flops, and a snack.

We began the day by introducing ourselves and showing the children on a globe where we are from. There is a team from Plant City, FL, and a team from Franklin, KY.

After the introductions, the children sang us three songs, some in Creole and one in English. We spent some time getting to know them by doing a name game. It took the children a while to warm up to us, but after awhile, they were showering us with hugs and kisses, showing us their games, and even calling us “mama.”

It was an emotional day to say the least. These children are precious. They are living in conditions that seem to be unbearable to us: wooden beds, no toilet, and as of this afternoon, they were not going to get to eat today.

The Franklin team led the Bible lesson today on creation, and the Florida team told the story of “The Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar,” and then led the craft of making butterflies out of coffee filters. The teams are working together very well and bonding with the children.

We can’t wait to go back tomorrow and continue to form these relationships. We are praying for the Holy Spirit to fill us and help us show the love of Christ to these children.
