This morning we had a lot of car trouble, but finally made it out to Bon Repos. We stopped first at the current orphanage so the Atlanta team could meet the children and see the conditions they are living in now. After a brief tour the kids all trouped out of their classroom and sang us some beautiful songs, including "Jesus Loves Me" in English, and Pastor Edmond and I gave short speeches of thanks and appreciation and prayers for each other, the care-givers and the children.
At the new site, we found Pastor Edmond's crew busy re-building the wall in front next to the ravine and putting in retaining walls on the site side of the bridge for the fill they will dump there so they can build the ramp on that side. They are waiting on the street side ramp, because right now they use that area for materials to be dumped and to mix concrete, as that's a lot easier for them to do there.
The Atlanta team "shot" the site for elevations, and dug some holes to test the soil. Other than the fact we will need a lot of fill soil, the site looks fine to them. We spent a lot of time going over the current drawings and discussing requirements and details, and they say they hope to have a full set of plans for us by January, including a detailed schedule showing the best sequence for doing the construction, with priority given to completely finishing the first third of the main building so we can move the children there as soon as possible. They are doing all of this for free, as part of their "Third Lens" ministry. Praise God for their timely help and dedication.
The next team coming is putting in a water purifier at the current orphanage, which will be moved to the new one as soon as the kids are moved. In December we will do the closing on the property, and in January the first volunteer work teams will start construction in earnest. We have three teams coming in January alone, praise the Lord.
Please pray for everyone working so hard to get this done, and for funds to keep the work going.
January is coming!
