Saturday, November 12
"Saturday is coming!" (Samedi ap vini!) has been our rallying cry and challenge all this week. Pastor Edmond had given us Saturday as an estimate when we started the bridge. Every time a problem was resolved or a milestone reached, Ron would say, "Yes, but Saturday is coming!" and everyone would laugh and get back to work. Even the Haitian crew picked up on this and seemed to work even harder because of it. Pastor Edmond and his amazing crew started pouring concrete about 4:30 yesterday and worked until 8pm (by the lights of Pastor Edmond's tap tap!) and got the bridge half done. When we arrived at 9 this morning they had been working for hours and were down to the last bit, and were all done by 10:30. It's 25cm (10 inches) thick and VERY solid. They will start the road-to-bridge part on Monday morning, which is the earliest they can get the fill, sand and gravel for it..
We thanked Pastor Edmond profusely for his excellent work, and even teased him about "Monday is coming!" for the next section. All the Haitians were very tired but also very proud of their accomplishment. They will have an excellent rest and a thankful Sunday tomorrow.
The Atlanta team will be here tomorrow, architects, engineers and soil experts, and will start to analyze the site in preparation for the plans they will create for us by January. We are greatly looking forward to their feedback on the site and the work done so far. Please pray for safe travel and health for this team. God has been so very gracious to us in giving us such a wonderful start, and we are expecting Him to continue to bless us in a mighty way.
