House Build/Tuesday and Wednesday

What a glorious day! A day the Lord has surely made. There were 11 of us on the trip that helped Orily, Robby, and Carlos build a family of five there very own house. A single mother with her 4 children, were the sweetest you will ever meet. The mother was telling us that her oldest son lived with his grandmother because they’re living arrangements weren’t enough for the whole family. Now he can finally come home and live with them, she was nearly in tears expressing her joy to us. Although she was eternally grateful and we know God touched her life, she blessed beyond words. She helped whenever she could, and was constantly smiling. She not only takes care of her children but she took care of us. Making a tortillas, and providing drinks, yet she has nothing in the eyes of an American. She is a mother who loves her children and the people around her… she is gift and precious flower. I pray God continues to give her the drive she has shown us all and helps her provide for her family.
Her children were also a blessing, so incredibly joyful and loving. They watched us at every moment, seeing our every move. Being a teacher, I was in awe of their behavior, so obedient and caring. The same goes for the neighborhood children. I observed as they shared their blessings with their siblings and friends, making sure each of them had enough. They even shared with the dog, Scottie, who was very protective of his humans (all of the humans). As we played “football” with the children he joined right in and wouldn’t let any other dog in our circle of fun. They too had nothing, living in shacks (some wood, and metal thrown together for a roof) right behind or in front their neighbors who live in actual houses. Words can barely express what was seen.
Our team worked together hard and fast. The first day there was 2 of us girls, the second 3. Orily is truly a Proverbs 31 woman… she is virtuous, and does not let her hands lay idle. She took us under her wing and taught us everything she knew…well tried too. She was also very patient with us! With a heart so big and beautiful, you could see love radiating through her. She worked non-stop and was joyful the entire time she did. Orily cares so much about her community, and has a heart for those near her, every single one of us needs to learn and portray this in our very own communities. I’ve learned so much from this woman, and yet could only communicate thru a few words and signs.
Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect from this trip. I wasn’t expecting to help build a house! God knew where He wanted me, and who He wanted me to encounter. He blessed me through this family, and neighborhood, I count the days till we can come back and help more families. Tomorrow it’s back to the malnutrition center, and I know that it will be a joy to see all those beautiful children once again. I’m not looking forward to leaving Guatemala, it’s a beautiful country. I pray God brings us back here once again. Thus far I’ve learned so much, I can’t imagine what tomorrow will be like!
I encourage everyone to do the same, use your talents for your community or travel further and use them to build up God’s kingdom and to help those with needs of all kinds.
In His Love, Ashley Rinaldi.
