Malnutrition Center Wednesday
Hi, My name is Kelly Elshoff and I am part of a group of eleven here in Guatemala from First Baptist Church of Pinellas Park, FL. There are a total 24 team members from several different churches. I am here with my pastor and our children's ministry director, among others. This is our 3rd day at the Malnutrition Center. The weather today is beautiful, and, of course, the kids are always beautiful.
You might say it's been a "poopy" day. Although I have changed many diapers in my lifetime, some of our group were... well, less experienced. I give a shout out to the one teenager we have here from our church, Matt. I don't think he has much experience but he carried on like a trooper! In the course of caring for the Pollos, we have changed many diapers. At the end of the day, the conversation inevitably turns into a contest to see who has the best "poopy" story. I think I won today when a bunny (conejito) gave me a special present all down the side of my Feyore t-shirt. That shirt is now in the garbage. It died a valiant death in the line of duty. I wonder if I am the first to blog about changing diapers. I doubt it.
My shirt being ruined in the line of duty reminds me that, despite the funny stories, we do have a couple of duties to do this week. One duty is to love on these children. Yes, we need to help meet their physical needs for cuddling, kissing, hugging, rocking, and touching. We need to love on these babies as much as we can while we are here. What a great duty! So I'll end this and get back to the easiest job anyone has ever asked me to do.
