Wednesday morning and we gathered for breakfast and had a great devotional from Steve O’Hara
Day 2 at the construction site of the house build. As with every day the drive proved to adventuresome. In fact Jeff Arthur remarked that he thought the game of chicken must have actually started in Guatemala because these guys are good (and we aren’t talking about the chicken you eat). We arrived at the sight and got started with many “fans” looking on and encouraging us. Many kids from the neighborhood were around and after lunch when we were down to the roof, Jeremy and Robert started a soccer game with the neighborhood. They sat and talked with the children and there were many smiling faces in the group. Jim was the master cutter and later became the roofer along with several others. That was a hot job with the sun beating down on the metal roof but there was no complaining as it looked like the crew could go all day if necessary – too much love was being poured into this house for people to care about the tiring work. Kevin and Orli had a nailing contest and believe it or not – Kevin won. Thanks Carlos for your help as well.
Our intern Parker has become a real leader for the group. He has only been here three weeks but knows the routine and is extremely helpful to the group. We finished with the work and then held a dedication time with the family. What appreciation they had! This would not even pass for a shed in the US but the mother’s eyes were filled with tears as she told everyone thank you for the hard work and new house. What a glorious time to spend with them. We handed out some gifts for the kids and then it was time to go. Off we went to meet up with the group from the Center.
