Guatemala Mission Team May 29-June 5, 2010

Many of our prayer partners and former team members have been wondering about the situation in Guatemala following the eruption of the Pacaya volcano and the tropical storm Agatha. A team was to have traveled there on Saturday, but obviously has not been able to go yet. Here is an update…
The group from Tallahassee arrived in Miami on Friday, and we informed them that we would not be leaving on Saturday due to the closing of the Guatemala City airport. What a huge disappointment for all of us! We gathered Saturday night in the Gunter’s home for a time of singing and sharing and prayer; our hearts’ desire was to go as quickly as possible, but we were open to whatever God had for us in the meantime. We were all in hopes of being able to leave on Monday (today) or Tuesday (tomorrow).
We were able to spend Sunday morning in downtown Miami with a ministry from Christ Fellowship, feeding the many homeless who came for breakfast and a time of worship. This team came ready to serve, so whether it was children in a Malnutrition Center in Guatemala or homeless men and women in one of America’s cities, serve is what we did. We pray God will in some way use our smiles and words of kindness to touch the hearts of the people who received some fruit and juice, coffee and pastries in His name.
We were informed this morning that all TACA flights have been cancelled and that the airport in Guatemala City will be closed another few days at least, so we have cancelled our trip for this week. The team will stay in Miami for a Memorial Day cookout, and then head back to Tallahassee tomorrow morning. All the supplies that were brought for the Malnutrition Center will remain, and another team will deliver them to the Center. (But, what about our disappointment? Where do we put that? God help us to trust You and Your plan!)
We have communicated with the Center in San Juan and have been informed that all the children are safe and doing fine. There is a great deal of water everywhere, but the children are ok; they’re just asking over and over, “When are the American’s coming? When are the American’s coming?” Precious ones, you’re in God’s loving hands, and we’ll be there just as soon as we can!
