have arrived safely in Guatemala, ready for service at the Malnutrition Center!

First, we enjoyed a day of sightseeing in Antigua on Sunday, as we got acclimated to the elevation and recovered from our travels.  Whether we chose horseback riding, zip lining, or a tour of the coffee plantation, not only did we bond together as a team, but we learned that this week we have to learn to let God be in control.

Let's get this journey going!
On the back of a mule, we learned that just as we followed our guide, our journey goes better when we follow God and let Him choose our route.

We trusted God for our safety and care while strapped to a wire, high above a cliff.  Just as we listened closely to the instruction on how to grow coffee, we also must keep our ears open to hear God when He speaks to us.  One of the best parts of the day was hearing the zip liners encourage each other as they climbed the hill back to the truck after zip lining.

Lunch at McDonald's with a fabulous view of Agua volcano was followed by some sightseeing and time in the market.  After orientation and dinner, most of the team went back into the city to watch the evening procession honoring the sacrifice of Jesus when He died on the cross for us.

After a good night’s sleep, we were up early Monday morning, eager to get to work.  Our morning devotion led by Nancy reminded us that  each of us has been called to this particular trip at this particular time!  We jumped on board the buses happy to be finally getting to experience whatever God has set aside for us this week.  Our drive, though an hour long, seemed short as we eagerly awaited our first (or in some cases, our return) glimpse of the children.

From the moment we arrived to a stream of boys running towards us with arms extended, we felt welcome.  The team of forty-one divided into several groups splitting among the different age groups and also into a maintenance and gardening team.  Painting, lawn work, weeding, checking the bee hives and general repairs are on the agenda for this week.

The Squirrels are as engaging as always waiting for their chance to get their hair done, while the Ducks are as feisty as ever.
One "feisty" little Duck!

The older children got to do a craft where they painted cross shaped suncatchers.  They also enjoyed music time.

The Chicks played all morning and had recreation in the afternoon.

For those who have endured the mid-morning potty time, you will be happy to know that it seems to have been eliminated from the day’s routine.  The Bunnies now sit at a table to eat by themselves instead of being fed in the high chairs.  They got to go outside and enjoyed playing with the balls under the shade of a tarp strung up in the trees.  The Dolphins had therapy time with Sara, our team’s occupational therapist.  The Canaries had some ball time and stretched their muscles as they exercised.  We all have our favorites all ready, but don’t tell Ron and Howie!  It’s a great day to be in Guatemala!

How about signing up to come on a trip and find out for yourself!
