Our primary purpose for coming to Uganda was to get our summer interns settled and make sure that everything was in place for a safe, meaningful and fruitful ministry while they are here. Ron and Cynthia brought in Stevie Collins and met our other intern, Nikki Rodriguez, who had already been working in Uganda for the last month.
We have no doubt that God is going to use them as His hands and feet for the six weeks that they are here. Nikki will be working primarily in the clinic, assisting Michael; Stevie will be working in the Genesis Nursery and Primary School, located in the church, assisting the teachers and doing tutoring. They will both be doing home visits with the sponsored children, helping lead the children's program on Saturdays, and serving anywhere a need for an extra set of hands arises. Pray for Stevie and Nikki's health and work this summer.
The work here continues to flourish, and we see so many evidences of God's hand at work! "Orphan's Heart Compassion Home," the girls' home that was started when our team was here last November, is now complete! It is beautiful, and the girls have moved in and gotten settled. They are so happy and grateful for such a wonderful place to live.
The well that was being drilled last November is also up and running and providing life giving water to the project and the surrounding community. Pray with us that the second well will be drilled soon!
The Genesis Nursery and Primary School, located in the church, has grown to overflowing, and is now serving 70 children from Pre-K to 2nd Grade! That's a lot of children for one classroom! They have had to divide the classroom into two, where the 1st and 2nd grade classes meet, and move the two kindergarten classes into the sanctuary, making it difficult for the children to hear and concentrate. We are eagerly anticipating the ground breaking for the new school building, which should be in just a month! It can't be soon enough!
We brought in much-needed supplies and teaching aids, and Cynthia was able to spend time at the school observing and teaching, as well as lead a time of training for the teachers, all of which was a real encouragement to the school staff. God is already using this little school to reach so many children and families! We look forward to how God is going to use it to help bring a future and a hope to the children of Kamonkoli through education and training.
To bring to a close our short time in Kamonkoli, we enjoyed a special dinner and a time of sweet fellowship and sharing around the table with the entire staff. What a blessing it has been to share our lives and hearts once more with our friends and partners in ministry here in Uganda!
