Today the lyrics to one of my favorite songs took on a whole new
meaning:
It’s the song of the
redeemed rising from the African plain.
It’s the song of the
forgiven drowning out the Amazon rain.
The song of Asian
believer’s filled with God’s holy fire.
It’s every tribe, every
tongue, every nation.
A love song born of a
grateful choir.
It’s all God’s children
singing:
Glory, Glory, Hallelujah, He reigns, He reigns.
Today we were blessed to see lions, baboons, crocodiles, hippos, elephants and more, but on our last game run our goal was to see a leopard. We looked high and low, but with no success. We took different trails, some bumpy, some smooth, some muddy, and some which required us to deviate off the beaten path to avoid becoming stuck. There were times when team members thought they had spotted the elusive leopard, but alas, they were mistaken each time. Monkeys and birds were some of the things which had actually been spotted that were not leopards. So, even though we had a goal, the outcome was out of our control.
As we were on safari today riding on the African plain, staring out at the vast expanse before us, I couldn’t help thinking of the great task which lies before us as believers. We have been commanded to take the good news of Jesus Christ to all the earth…which means to every tribe, every tongue, & every nation. It can seem like a daunting task and even like an unreachable goal such as our trying to see a leopard today. However, we know how the story ends, as there will be a time when this goal is accomplished!
Each believer has been commanded to play a role in bringing about
the success of this goal, to share the Good News with those who don’t
know. What a privilege for God to allow us to play a part in His
kingdom work, by planting seeds and sharing our stories and lives with others in
hopes of them coming to know Jesus. We should be thinking of this
goal daily and striving to achieve it. Our paths are all
different…some smooth, some rough, some easy, some hard, some wide, and some
narrow--similar to the roads we took today on the safari. We all
have the ability to impact those around us no matter the path that comes before
us. Our obedience to this command is crucial, which is why our
team came to Uganda to serve this week. We want the Great
Commission to be fulfilled.
One day in Heaven there will be a huge reunion with our Ugandan
brothers and sisters in Christ because of the Good News they were brought this
week. God has moved in a mighty way, in both the hearts of the
team members as well as the people ministered to this week. It is
true…Glory, Glory HE REIGNS!
