UGANDA - August 13, 2012

Today was a busy day for the team! We split into four different groups with each group having a different assignment. There’s a lot of work to be done here, and it is a blessing and a privilege that we have the opportunity to serve in so many different ways.
One team of men, Rick, Paul, and Russ, set out early to do some construction work. They are helping local workers build the foundation for a new building. The Ugandan workers work under very poor conditions, many of them working barefoot. However, they’ve developed incredible skills and are able to work surprisingly fast. Their day’s wages for all this work comes out to be about 3 US dollars, which is considered very good pay here in Kamankoli. It is a humbling experience to work alongside these men.

Another team spent some time at the local clinic which helps care for all of the sponsored children and their families. These team members helped with inventory of medical items. Much of this inventory included items that were donated and brought over from the US. Other groups will be helping with the clinic throughout the week.

Yet another team went out, deep into the villages, to visit the homes of orphans and widows in order to bring them clothes and other items, as well as to encourage them and continue pointing them to hope in Jesus.

HOME VISITATION

Our last group consisted of Julie, Jarred, Shannon, Jen, Priscilla and Nicki. This team spent the entire day teaching a youth seminar to the older children of the village. Aside from teaching the kids the dance moves to the electric slide (using an African song of course), we covered topics that consisted of things such as setting goals, boundaries, determining good/bad friends, the importance of sexual purity, how to avoid and refuse negative situations, and other issues as well. The children sat and took notes the entire time and stayed engaged.  These are very important topics for youth who may not be guided in this direction from anywhere or anyone outside of the church.

Tomorrow is expected to be just as busy!  All of the above mentioned assignments will be carried out once again. Keep us in your prayers, that God would continue using us and speaking through us. As expected, the Ugandan Christians have been a huge encouragement through their dedication and passion. Their joy motivates us and brings us excitement! I can genuinely say that these are some of the most humble and loving people I have ever met. It’s a joy to talk with them, or to sit and play outside with the children. And the dancing? That’s the best part! They seem to always be willing to dance as a way of worship or as a way to simply enjoy each other. I can truly say that my experience here in Uganda has been unlike any other experience. There is just something about their joy and authenticity in Jesus that is so refreshing. They’re beautiful!
