I wrote yesterday about how excited I was to get to go out to dinner, and if I had even the slightest idea just what exactly I was going to get to see I wouldn't have been able to sit still! For those of you who don’t know the FBC Leesburg part of the team, we are huge music geeks and proud of it. The food was great, but the best part was by far the band. They were phenomenal!! It was a great way to spend the evening.
It’s our last day…. As much as we are ready to see our loved ones in the States, we don’t want to leave. Through the week I’ve been praying over each child whenever I’m holding, playing with, feeding, or changing them. Today, I feel like I can’t get enough prayer in. A few of us apologized at breakfast for the messes we would be on the way back to the hotel after saying good-bye. The only thing that might get me through is the knowledge that I’m coming back next year.
The Canary room has had a relatively easy day. Mary was taken to the hospital so she could be under a doctor’s care around the clock and not just every other day. The littlest babies slept quite a bit this morning, and there are four babies with fevers. When the kids have a fever, they have to stay in their cribs, so we went from 20 kids to 10. Alex and Walter have taken over half of the play area with jousting walkers, and I must say it’s quite entertaining. Jefferson, the perpetual happy boy, was all giggles today in an exer-saucer.
Donna got to work a little with Basilio today. He takes care of the garden and the 233 chickens that are at the Center. (Yes, 233 is the correct number. The chickens are used for their eggs, and with 75 malnourished kids to feed, you need lots of protein!) Donna is a vet in Mt. Dora, so she was able to teach as much as she learned about the chickens. I could tell from her face as she spoke of the experience that she enjoyed herself.
There was a new admission today named Josephine. She’s five years old and just as beautiful as can be. Her needs aren’t as severe as Mary’s so she gets to start in the Squirrel room.
Pray for us as we travel tomorrow and find our way back to you all. Pray for the nannies as they take back the work they were able to lay on us for a few days. Pray also for the families who are on their way to San Juan to visit with their sons and daughters this weekend. And although you will be reading this after we have left the Center, pray that we all may cope well with having to leave these beautiful angels. Pray for those who will be traveling here next, that God will begin to prepare their hearts and keep them safe.
Would you also pray about the possibility of coming here yourself? It’s one thing to read my words and see the pictures, but there is no way to understand until you are here yourself. We as a country are truly blessed and I pray that you are able to use your talents, resources, and time to minister to these wonderful women and beautiful babies.
