The Crew!

WOW! What a week!  We can't believe that it's already Thursday. Today we had 27 of the children accept Christ as their Savior. Praise God!  One of those was Nick, one of our translators.  He is 18 years old and grew up in Brooklyn, NY.  He has only been "back" in the DR for 6 days.  He is an awesome young man and now he is part of our Christian family.

We have a team of 3 dental hygienists who have seen over 120 patients in 3 days... with 1/2 day left tomorrow. Awesome work team!  The construction crew has taken off an old tin roof, raised it 3 blocks higher, and now has put on  a new roof.  The kitchen will now be much cooler as this center feeds over 300 children three times a day.  Great job, guys! The VBS team has taught over 300 children to be "Light in the Darkness" over the last three days.  Incredible loving going on, ladies! This team truly has been the hands and feet of Christ.  We are so thankful for this awesome opportunity to serve the beautiful people of the Dominican Republic.

****Crazy moment of the day:
The dental team was using a pressure cooker to sterilize their instruments used for cleaning teeth.  It was near the end of the day and many of us were in the common food area.  Jamie Davis Samuels was in the little kitchen checking on the pot...we all thought we could smell something strange...she thought maybe the handle was melting???  suddenly...BOOM!!!!  The lid of the pressure cooker shot into the air, tossing all the instruments everywhere!  We had NO IDEA what had just happened!  I asked Jamie if she was okay...a quiet and unsure "I'm fine..." came from the kitchen.   As we inspected the kitchen we found instruments all over the place!  At least two of them were "driven" into the wood beams above!! The lid of the pot was completely warped and the pot itself was scarred with black stains!  With more investigating, we found that Jamie WAS fine.  God had placed protection around her that very moment.  Definitely her WOW moment!  So, prayer works, friends!  Our God is faithful...I know none of us will ever forget that sound or the moment we realized what had happened.
