Haiti, May 23, 2012

Wednesday, May 23

Today we took a day off to let the concrete posts in the Pastor House to cure and went to visit the kids in the morning and then had lunch in Petionville and went on a short excursion up on the mountain behind Port-au-Prince. This was a real treat for all of us in many ways: we got to spend some quality time with the children when we were actually CLEAN, we got to sample some of Haitian life in a different place, and we got to play tourist and see a different view of the city while doing some shopping in a small artisan market.

The children were in school when we arrived, so we watched as they finished their lessons and then distributed toys and treats and new clothes before playing with them.

Then we collected the two ladies that cook and take such good care of us at the house and headed up to Petionville, the upscale neighborhood above Port-au-Prince, for lunch at a favorite local restaurant, Fior di Latte. After lunch we went up on the mountain above the city, at Boutilay. The view from here is amazing.

This is our group, with the ladies, Pio, our bus driver, and one of the security guys, Steve.

Tomorrow we will be able to take the forms off the Pastor House posts and begin work on its bond beam. Praise God for this wonderful day of rest, the wonderful weather (still no rain!) and that everyone is healthy and ready to get back to hard work. Every time we visit the kids we are extra motivated to get back and make as much progress as possible toward the day they will be in their new home.
