Guatemala, May 5-11, St. Michael Lutheran School

St. Michael Lutheran School, Ft Myers, FL

Jonny's 1st diaper change!

Hi again! It's now afternoon project time again in the malnutrition center. The kids are as cute as ever. It's a lot calmer here than it was yesterday now that all the kids have gotten acquainted with us. By now, we've all had our fair share of diaper changing.
Yesterday after we left the malnutrition center, we drove back to the same market we've been going to. Almost all of us have gotten a Guatemala soccer jacket. We look like real tourists now in case we didn't before.

After visitng the market we went back to the hotel and ate dinner. After dinner we always have our WOW! Time. During this time, we talk about what we did during the day, how we feel about everything that's going on, and any questions we may have. This time it came with a special treat, we went to McDonald's for ice cream.

The Olympic qualfiers for weight lifitng is being hosted in Guatemala. All of the participants are staying in our hotel. It's neat to see everybody from different countries across the world.
All of us kids enjoy playing soccer on the empty field behind the hotel. We feel like we are so much into their culture.

We've all bonded greatly on this trip, and we're only four days into our adventure. It was nice that we were already such good friends, but now we get to strengthen our bonds with each other before some of us go off to high school.
Each morning we have a different devotion. The one this morning was about thankfulness. We all went around in a circle and had to say what we were thankful for. Being here has really given some of us a reality check about how lucky we are to live in America. We easily could have been born into a family that wouldn't have been able to feed us. We may not have been as lucky as these kids are to be here getting the help they need. You can already tell how much they've improved. Each day is a blessing, but we're just waiting for tomorrow to come back and be with these kids who are touching are lives minute by minute.
