GUATEMALA - April 12

"PRAY TO THE LORD OF THE HARVEST,
THAT HE MAY SEND MORE WORKERS IN HIS FIELD!"

Isn’t this how it always happens, as soon as you get used to something, that something has to come to an end?!  Well that is what happened to us today at the Center.  We are coming upon our last day of the mission trip, and we are finally getting the hang of things at the Center.  I honestly believe this is God’s plan to prepare us to come back to the Center at another time because the need is so great. Just as God’s word says in Matthew 9:37, “He (Jesus) said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is so great, but the workers are so few.” Let me just remind you, there are around 70 children at the Guatemala Malnutrition Center and only a few nannies.  They have so much to do on their own that they need the mission teams to come help get things accomplished.

Today alone we had multiple projects to accomplish...
The playground is finally finished!

All of the kids got sized and fitted with new shoes, thanks to Ashley Woodard who held a shoe drive for this trip.

The Center and our team gave Brenda, one of the nannies, a baby shower with gifts and a full luncheon for all of the staff.

We had an additional 133 chickens delivered to the Center to bring our count up to 233!  With that many chickens the kids will get eggs everyday, and the Center will be able to sell eggs to the community at a low price to help the Center and the city.

Ron and his helpers completed putting the new hardware in the new mission trip housing, which, after all these months of dreaming, is very close to completion!

Thanks to our photographers, Ashley and Jeanette, the pictures for the "Wall of Fame" of all the kids at the Center were posted so the parents who visit will all see their little ones.

We washed the kids, fed them snack, played with them, fed them lunch, got them ready for nap, woke them up, and finally took them to crafts and recreation. Even after doing all of this we were still able to be on the bus by 4:15 to head to “The Cross”, an amazing site on the top of a hill overlooking the city of Antigua. (This is now the picture that graces the screensaver of my phone.)

You know, God knew what He was doing when he called us to do mission work: He knew we would grow tired, He knew Satan would attack, He knew we would see Him in and around us, and He knew when to tell us enough is enough or it’s time for another trip. We just have to accept His call, because the work is out there, but the workers are few. “So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send out more workers for the field.” Matthew 9:38.

Even though some of us were peed on, pooped on, and used as a tissue, we still fell in love with these children and wouldn’t give up this experience for anything. God has allowed us to look through His eyes to see this hurting world and make a difference in at least one person’s life.

Thank you Lord for your grace, Your amazing grace, that made a difference in my life!

Amazing Grace
How sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found.
Was blind but now I see.
