Haiti - Saturday, March 10
Done in only two days! That's all it took for this team to pour the entire slab for the Phase 1 building, and both days they were done by 3 o'clock! 28 cubic yards of concrete, made from 196 bags of concrete, 14 cubic yards of sand, and 21 cubic yards of gravel. What a job!
We started today from the other end of the building, so that we would have easier access from the cement mixer at the end of the pour. The gravel team shoveled 5 gallon buckets of gravel, the sand team shoveled 5 gallon buckets of sand, and the loaders hoisted them into the mixer, followed by sacks of cement and water. Then the wheelbarrows got to work delivering it and pouring it for the finishers.

It wasn't only work, though. Will took time out between loads for a little thumb wrestling with Yves Joseph, one of the older orphan kids that was helping us today.
After an hour and a half, almost half done, but we had to scrounge all around for more gravel, so we set up a control joint at this point, stopped the mixer and spent some time carrying gravel from different parts of the site so we could finish.
Another hour and a half and we're almost there!
Last touches!
And here it is...all done, with the team assembled to celebrate!
If anyone had any doubts about God showing up for this project, they were dispelled today! Again, He brought together the perfect team for this part of the job. We even have Max, a concrete expert, who has verified the mixture ratios and compression strengths on our slab and the grout we will use to fill the blocks. At every point on this project the Lord has provided exactly what was needed. And now we need - BLOCK LAYERS!
We urgently need teams over the next two months to finish Phase 1 and get the children into safe and healthy quarters. Please pray that God will provide the workers needed again, and consider whether He is calling YOU to come and participate in this important work.
