Today started with inspiration from the Old Testament when Nehemiah was rebuilding the wall. In time the people "rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height," because everyone did their part and "the people worked with all their hears." (Neh. 4:6) We were reminded that the larger work that we're involved in at the Center is God’s unfolding masterpiece, and we are to 'build our part of the wall' and work with all of our hearts. Pairing that with a thought from last night that these beautiful ninos e ninas are kids, just like our own back home (even if in days long past), doing all the things that kids do. But God, through these little ones, is profoundly affecting each of us.
So it was back to caring, sharing, loving and serving for Day 2. God thankfully held back the rains to allow for more painting outside.
God also provided for Chris, a professional barber, to accompany our group. I think the trauma for many of the kids will be short lived, but I’m sure Chris will not soon forget his day of many an unhappy customer.
It was day Day 2 for little Irma Yolnada as well, but today was a much better day. Good eating and good sleeping made her a much happier camper.
Brian and Veronica both got to hang out some with the Chicks. They both may fly the Canaries coop soon!
Samuel had a good first day in the Bunnies.
The big surprise was how Josefina liked getting her hair cut.
In the Ducks and Squirrels, our team troubadour, Cameron, helped Odilia to draw a picture. When he added a crayon-drawn smiley face, it brought all work to a standstill. Odilia mirrored that smile and added a big hug for good measure. What an amazing “thank you” is the smile of a little nina!
