TANZANIA - Day 6

Every morning following our breakfast we have a short worship time. This morning Ale gave our devotion and reminded us that each of the orphans we meet here really has a Father, their Heavenly Father! She encouraged us to be teaching our kids that God will always be their true Father! She had all the moms in the group in tears by the end. After wiping our tears and gaining our composure we headed to the bus.

We set out to get our 13 chickens that were donated during our holiday fundraiser at the Tangeru market. We all gathered around and enjoyed looking at the colorful chickens and roosters. However, we were counting our chickens before they hatched. When the sellers saw all the Americans looking on with their cameras in hand, the price suddenly sky rocketed, so we flew the coop! Gabriel is going to go tomorrow and buy them without all the on-lookers. There were also plans to buy 3 dairy cows today, but we were informed that they were all out to pasture, so that will be done tomorrow as well.

The Maasai market was open for business, with many sellers willing to barter with us for treasures. All the ladies have been admiring Ksusha's colorful pants, so our first stop was the stall of the lady who makes hers, Mama Mary. Her stall in the market is about 10 feet deep and 5 feet wide. With 9 of us in her "shop", we were all elbow to elbow. Everyone found either a pair of pants from her rack or material for her to make them a pair. After our pants were picked and either being altered or made (she made three pairs in 30 minutes!), we all scattered in the maze of shops. Two hours later we returned to the bus with our goodies: knives, bowls, scarves, carvings, jewelry and more.

We had fun discussing our transactions on the drive to lunch. We ate at a beautiful restaurant, the Coffee Lodge! The restaurant is a little oasis surrounded by coffee bushes. We sat outside and enjoyed the cool breezes while we ate our food.

Following lunch we were off to purchase more of our house supplies: a vacuum and fan at the "Best Buy" in Arusha. Next we needed some different cleaning supplies for our work at the house tomorrow and also some blue paint for the bedrooms at Small Steps house. We gathered a few things for breakfast because we will be leaving early, we have a lot we want to accomplish tomorrow!
After dinner tonight there are plans to play some card games on the porch, Skip-bo! Then it will be "lala salama", a peaceful sleep!
