Guatemala, Nov 30-Dec 6, 2011

Gautemala - Day 7: The “Texas 5” returned to the center for our last day with the kids. Since the rest of the team flew back home early this morning, we were small in numbers and decided to hang out with the babies today. It made for a nice change in pace although after a while Lynn said it was a little too slow for him. Nonetheless, we stuck it out. I also took the opportunity to take a video recording tour of the building. I haven’t reviewed it yet, but I am sure it will come out a bit shaky. I will post it as soon as I can.

Our translator went back out to the center with us as well. This gave us a chance to get to know her a little better . She is 22 and loves the twins in the nursery. She lives about 15 minutes outside of Antigua. She goes to a Pentecostal church in that community and shared with us that she used to go to a Baptist church in Antigua. We asked her if she would show us where it is and on our way home we drove by. It is near the arch of Antigua and has a restaurant as a part of its ministry. However, both were closed by the time we arrived.

This afternoon we will finish shopping at the market, enjoy our last dinner, and pack our bags for our flights tomorrow. LeeAnn and I will be leaving the hotel at 3:30 in the morning for our 7am flight. Bette Sue, Lynn, and Barabara will get to sleep in, eat breakfast, and leave the hotel at 9:30 for a 1:30pm flight. LeeAnn and I will stop over in Panama and Miami before arriving in Houston at 7pm. The rest will stop over in Ft. Lauderdale and then on to Dallas by 10pm. Llano will be our final destination in the wee hours of Thursday morning. See you all when we get home! Tell our kids we love them and have surprises for them!

Below are some reflections that could have changed the way this trip ended:
1) One of our team members, Fred, learned that his brother went into the hospital with a serious condition after we arrived in Guatemala. The condition was serious enough that the doctors were considering amputation of one of his feet.
2) One of Greg and Darla’s children went to the hospital after our arrival as well.
3) Barbara’s blood pressure got up to 170 and she dealt with faintness for a day.
4) Mrs. Jewel Lamb who is 84 years old and who also broke her hip in November of 2010, fell into a flower bed surrounded with stone, nearly hitting a flag pole, but was not injured.

I am thankful that these occurrences did not become something more. It goes to show that God would not allow anything to redirect what He had already planned. We have all had a blessed week. It has been very uplifting and a blessing to serve and bless others. I’m looking forward to seeing what God will do with those who hear of this ministry and join in His work here at the Malnutrition Center. God’s grace and peace to all of you!
