Theme of the day: “Can you please tell me: "What is there to complain about? This has got to be the good life!”
Day 2 at the Center started with that great song, “Good Life” by One Republic (thanks to Lourdes and her ipod mini), and it really set the mood and the tone for the whole day. Walking--well, more like running--to start our time with our babies, that song really rang true. What could we possibly have to complain about? This is a good life that we are given to do great things, and we are using it to give these kids as good of a life as we can while we are here serving them.
This was a wonderful day that went so smoothly...now that we all know the routines and schedules, and it gave us all the opportunity to focus on some kids that especially needed extra attention. It also allowed us to manage our time with all of the other kids as well as complete the daily organizing and cleaning that must be done.
Because we were able to provide that extra attention, we had a couple of kids who made huge gains in physical and language development. Billy started copying oral motor exercises in front of a mirror. William learned to army crawl today, when yesterday he could barely tolerate tummy time. His sister Rosa is attempting the same, and I have a good feeling she will be following behind him in the next couple of days. Alex was able to sit up all by himself today and he was completely unable to do that yesterday. Daniel, aka “Big D”, and Joselyn are on their way to learning to walk on their own. They both need a little more work on balance and a giant push of confidence. I’m crossing my fingers that we see first steps or something close before we leave. But even if we don’t, just the progress they have made thus far is truly a miracle.
We decided as a team that because today was such an awesome day, we are assigning special awards to some of the kiddos who caught our attention. So...Congratulations to the following “Center Super Stars”:
MOST CONGENIAL: Walter
MOST IMPROVED ATTITUDE: Samuel
MOST HARD WORKING: Billy

Hopefully tomorrow we will have a new set of “Super Stars”.
In closing, I can’t believe how fast the past few days have gone, and as exciting as it is, there already is a growing fear that the next two days will go way too fast, and the next thing we know we will be saying goodbye. I’m not gonna lie, my heart is already breaking. But there is no use in worrying about that now. There is nothing to worry or complain about! This is the good life.
Until tomorrow, sending love your way,
Becca
PS HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, VICKI!
