Mother/Daughter Team June 17

Today we got an early start to the Center, as the children’s families had the opportunity to come visit with their children, as they do every Friday. We wanted to make it there in time to help bathe and dress the children, and have them ready to see their families when they arrived. While we were only at the center for a few hours this morning, it was amazing to see the ways in which the Lord worked both through us and in us. Romans 12:4 talks about the body of Christ and the different parts and roles that we each play as a body- and today, we saw the Holy Spirit working and using each of our gifts to love the children well. Two of the women who are hairdressers were able to give the children haircuts!! Tomorrow, the workers will get a chance to have haircuts as well. A few of the women on our team were able to organize and put together some gift baskets for the workers at the Center as well, while the rest of us pulled together to change sheets, diapers, give baths, dress babies and children, and play with them until it was time for their parents to visit.

One of the things that we discussed doing as a team was praying over the children while we are with them! While we may not be able to tend to every single need that each child in the Center has, our Heavenly Father can. He can pour out His love on us, so that we might be able to love them well, and take care of them well while we are present with them. Even more, He can use those prayers in ways that we cannot even begin to imagine, and can answer our prayers in ways that we cannot dream.

Today also happened to be Father’s Day in Guatemala. While we rode back on the bus to Antigua, I was sitting next to one of our translators, who shared with me about losing her father just two short months ago. She expressed her grief through tears, and her sadness over this loss, as well as the loss of her mother four months ago. She expressed how being at the Center has been healing for her, and has given her the ability to love the children so well. I was amazed by her faith, and the amount of love in her heart after such loss over the last few months. I was again reminded of the power of the Cross, and the redemption and healing that God can bring in our lives when we surrender to Him and serve Him with our whole hearts.
